I recently posed a few questions to event professionals on professional development and how it's viewed within their company.
The majority of respondents have been at their current band/grade level for more than five years and are eagerly seeking a promotion.
About a third of respondents said their company does not have a defined calibration or promotion process for career progression, though many respondents said they company has defined it and it is clearly explained.
The majority of respondents said their organization does not have a defined set of skills that are required for each career level.
Interestingly, very few companies are offering pre-budgeted professional development budgets for their employees, but most respondents reported that companies do reimburse or approve professional development upon request.
